Strong Haven West was smaller than Strong Haven East. Built in a simple square shape, the junior palace of tan and gray stone had only two floors with six rooms on the first floor and six on the second. The kitchen, dining room, receiving room, and study were on the first floor. The bedchambers were all on the second. The grounds were filled with shrubs and flowers with concrete benches, and a large pond sprawled in the back. Lady Wren and her mate, Lord Delfin, served as custodians, and a small staff was at their disposal.

Studying the palace from a distance at an elevated vantage point, I counted four carriages and several footmen and valets. The Strong carriages had not yet arrived.

“What now?” Leto asked.

While Jaid stroked his chin, an idea came to me. I faced the group. “This is going to sound mad, but with Malena not there yet, what if we simply march in?”

“Whoa,” Manny said. “Hold up. March in like, ‘Hey, what’s up? How’s everyone doing?’ Or march in like, ‘We’re here to kill you!’”

“The first one,” I said.

Jaid and Leto looked at each other before bringing their attention to me. “I actually think that might work,” Leto said.

“What about Alexander and his family?” Parlan asked.

“What about them?” Leaf said with fury. “They are no better than anyone else.”

Jaid lowered his hand from his chin. “I say we do as Celyse suggested. We march in. But we must act fast before Malena arrives.”

With daggers at our waists, swords at our sides, and bows and arrows—except for Manny, who only had a dagger—we mounted our rides and broke into a gallop to the palace. We slowed when we approached and dismounted where the carriages were stationed. The valets frowned at our arrival, then gaped when they recognized me.

Ignoring them, and pretending I was wearing a gown befitting of my status, I raised my head high and strode with confidence to the oversized double wood carved door. The doorman swung the door open, his jaw dropping.

“Princess Celyse, uh, um, I mean, uh . . .”

I nodded and breezed past the small dwarf with Jaid and Leto flanking me and the others behind. I crossed the foyer and marched to the receiving room just beyond. Stopping at the entrance, I studied the room.

The white marble floors with gold flecks gleamed from fresh polish. The pearlescent walls sparkled, and rich silver drapes framed the windows that lined the back walls, showcasing the sprawling pond covered in lily pads. Oversized plush silver chairs were set up in a circular pattern. The lords and ladies from the provinces, in their royal garb, slowly rose to their feet when they spotted me. Most of them were at my fake wedding.

“Seize her!” Alexander shouted, brandishing his sword with a metallic zing and rushing my way.

Strapped with my own sword, I whipped it out. Leaf whipped out his too. Jaid and Leto pulled out their bows and arrows, aiming at Alexander and his father.

Everyone froze.

“No one is seizing me,” I declared.
